Smoking isn’t as cool as it used to be. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of adult and teenage smokers is at an all-time low. At the same time, the number of vapers is growing at a staggering rate.
If you’re a young vaper, that’s not the news for you. Perhaps, there’re more vapers than smokers among your peers.
Celebrities who vape
Paparazzi regularly capture celebs carrying e-cigarettes with them. But stars don’t even hide their vaping habit. Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry, and Sarah Silverman gave the best vape pen (check this) its place on the red carpet. DiCaprio, Sienna Miller, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus puffed away inside the Golden Globe.
On their social net accounts, actors and singers post photos where they are vaping. Thus, we know that Tom Hardy, Drake, and Robert Pattinson enjoy vaping. R&B artists went even further. Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Rocky and The Weeknd launched their own lines of vape devices in collaborations with popular brands.
Female stars don’t lag behind. Katherine Heigl discussed the benefits of vaping with David Letterman in 2010 while showing off her sleek vape pen.
Kylie Jenner posted a few videos in her Snapchat where she was using a stylish-looking vape device. In one of them, social media queen was sitting in her luxury car and vaping like a pro. The text caption said “Vape life dogggg”. In another video, she and her friend were blowing vapor rings. Lady Gaga, Cara Delevingne, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Michelle Rodriguez and Cheryl Cole also followed the trend.
Product placement in movies and music videos
Vaping PR placement is also on the rise. Perhaps, it started in 2010, when Johnny Depp was vaping in one of the scenes of “The Tourist”. A vaporizer pen has been appearing in films to this day. John Cusack was vaping in “Drive Hard”, Dennis Quaid in “Beneath the Darkness”, Zac Efron in “Dirty Grandpa”, Jack Black in “Sex Tape”, Isla Fisher in “Now You See Me”. The list can go on and on.
We can see electronic smoking gadgets in music videos. From rock to hip hop and beyond, e-cigarettes have been advertising by the music industry since 2013, when Lily Allen featured an e-cig in “Hard Out There”. Dj Khaled placed vaporizers in his “I’m the One” and “Do You Mind” videos. In the Foo Fighters’ music video for their song “Run,” Dave Grohl is seen blowing out an impressive vapor cloud. Vapes product placement can be seen in the hip-hop group Migos’ video “Motorsport” that features Cardi B and Nicki Minaj and J.Lo’s “Dinero” that features DJ Khaled and Cardi B.
The top vaping influencers
YouTube averages 4 billion video views per day. Naturally, it offers unique insight into vaping. Research says that out of all videos referencing electronic smoking devices, about 85% promote the product by providing information on health benefits and using it for smoking cessation.
Given that some vapers who have Youtube channels also run some vaping business, they really use it for advertising. But they also review the products of other brands and demonstrate different vaping tricks. Bloggers that captivate the largest audience are:
- Mike Vapes has 261,000 followers. “I quit the icky sticks after 24 years and vaping has saved my life,” says Mike.
- Nick Green runs GrimmGreen Youtube channel with 389,000 subscribers. “I am all about vaping, e-cigs and tobacco harm reduction”, says the vaper.
- RiP Trippers has 1,2 million subscribers and boasts 225 million views. A blogger has its own slogan: “Smoking is dead, vaping is the future, the future is now.”
- vAustinL, a channel with 1,8 million subscribers on Youtube belongs to a 23-year old sensation Austin Lawrence. The Vaper also has 2,8 million followers on his Instagram. The boy is the vaping star. He gives interviews to different magazines and endorses a safer alternative for smoking.
Vaping and style
When we read about vaping on the websites of Vogue, Elle or Harper’s Bazaar, we understand that it’s in fashion. Fashionistas can’t overlook the products with beautiful and thought-out designs.
Indeed, the design of some vape pen mods is really impressing. Devices are painted in all possible colors – starting from white and black and ending with exquisite silver, gloss gold and rose gold. On some gadgets, the colors are mixed to form an abstract picture. Some vape mods are embellished with a conspicuous graphic.
When it comes to materials, high-end vaporizers seek to be luxury accessories. Stainless steel, manu-marble, and stabilized wood look superb. Enthusiastic vapers even collect electronic cigarettes with unique designs.
To vape or not to vape?
A-list stars, glossy magazines, and bloggers created vaping-centered social hype and made vaping undeniably cool and fashionable. Are you already thinking of buying the best vape pen? Slow down.
If you don’t smoke and don’t know what nicotine addiction is, you’re a happy person. Conscientious retailers warn non-smokers about the risks of vaping. Most e-liquids contain nicotine, a highly addictive chemical. So, if you don’t smoke, don’t start vaping. In fact, practically all the celebrities who vape are either current or former smokers.
But what if you smoke? Vaping is not an FDA-approved smoking cessation aid. Public health officials around the world still haven’t come to a common conclusion on its safety and effectiveness. However, several studies show that e-cigarette works better than traditional medicinal products.
A large study was conducted by a team from University College London. Researchers interviewed nearly 6,000 people who had tried to quit smoking. It was found out that, while using over-the-counter products such as nicotine gum or patches was an effective way to quit, vaping beat them as well as the attempts of people who went cold turkey.
Professor Robert West, one of the researchers, says the research on vaping should be continued. It’s important to know how e-cigarettes work as a quit smoking aid. “It really could affect literally millions of lives,” he said. But since the long-term effects of vaping are unknown, nobody can tell that it’s totally safe. So, the choice is yours alone.
