Nail polish was first created and used in China. Its utilization goes back during 3000 BC. At around 600 BC, the imperial house mostly used metallic shades such as gold and silver. As the years went by, the top color choices came with red and dark shades and went side by side with the metallic hues. By tradition, these nail polishes were made using a combination of ingredients including beeswax, egg whites, vegetable colors and gelatin.
In Egypt, the lower classes wore pale shades, while member of the high society painted their nails bronzed chestnut using henna. It was furthermore understood that preserved pharaohs had their nails painted using henna.
By the turn of the ninth century, nails were tinted with scented red oils, and either cleaned or buffed. By the nineteenth century, people favored a clean look rather than a painted look by mixing tinted powders and creams into their nails, then buffing them until a desired shine is acheived. One kind of cleaning thing sold around this time was Graf’s Hyglo nail sparkle paste.

Who would have thought that nail polish had such a very rich history? Now, let us discuss about the different types of nail polish.
Base coat is a type of nail polish That is used to strengthen the nails, improve moisture and helps the polish to stick to the nails. Some base coats are called “ridge fillers” because they can create a smooth surface, and help reduce the appearance of the ridges that can be seen on unbuffed nails. It appears as a milky-colored substance, or as an opaque pink nail polish. It is usually applied before using a tinted nail polish.
Top coat is another type of nail polish that is a clear colored formula specifically applied after putting on nail polish. Upon application, it creates a strong barrier around the nail to prevent the polish from chipping, scratching and peeling. Most top coats are labeled as “quick-drying.” Top coats help the underlying polish dry quickly, giving your nails a more finished and desired look.

There are also several types of nail polishes based on their consistency and final look.
A gel polish is a variety of nail polish made up of a type of a long lasting polymer. It is used on the nail in the same ways as traditional nail polish, but it does not dry. Instead, it is placed under an ultraviolet light source. Regular nail polishes typically last for two to seven days before it starts chipping. On the other hand, gel nail polishes can last up to two weeks, given that you observe proper application and care. However, gel nail polishes are much more difficult to remove than the regular nail polish. It is usually removed by gently pushing off the polish with a wooden stick after soaking the nails in acetone for about ten to fifteen minutes.
Matte polishes are pretty much like a regular polish. But, the main difference is that it has a dull finish rather than a shine. It can be purchased like a regular base coat in a wide variety of different colors. Matte nail polish can also be found in a top coat. Matte top coat is most useful for painting over any dry base color, giving it a very unique appearance. The matte polish will dull the shine from a usual base coat polish. This particular type of polish has become very popular these past few years because it can be very useful particularly in nail art applications. You can do a lot of designs with this nail polish and create a contrast between the shiny and matte polishes.
