We all know the typical date idea: dinner and a movie. There’s nothing wrong with that provided the food is good and the movie isn’t a snoozefest, but it helps to have some other unique ideas in your back pocket.
You always want to make a good impression when you’re on a date and showing off your creative side and tendency to stray from the beaten path is a great way to have fun and bond with the other person.
Dates can be tricky though, because you don’t want to break the bank on a night. You may feel more comfortable splurging a bit for an anniversary or birthday but dropping triple digits on a regular Friday night may not quite be what you had in mind.
Below are some great date ideas that will make sure you and your date have a great time without spilling all your hard-earned cash.
Head to an Arcade
Remember those days when you were a kid and $10 felt like a million bucks in your hand? $10 meant 40 quarters and 40 quarters meant you could maybe get enough tickets to win that cool prize.
Why not head back to the arcade? It has plenty of games and activities that you can do together or go head-to-head in a bit of friendly competition. While you may not win enough tickets for that big, fuzzy bear you can make the loser of the air hockey game buy a milkshake for the other.
With summer right around the corner (can I get an amen?), that mean the sun will be shining more and you can finally start spending most of your time outside. While you’re outside, head down to the water.
Look for a local river or lake near you and see what activities they have. They may have some canoeing you can do together, a paddle boat or paddle boarding. All are fairly inexpensive activities that get you outside and enjoying nature.
It will be a good way to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the everyday world as well.
A Drive-In Theater
While it may be hard to find a drive-in theater near you, it’s a unique and different way to go catch dinner and a movie. All you need is a full tank of gas and a bit of time on your hands because you may be driving for awhile.
Make a small road trip out of it and leave earlier in the day to see what you can find along the way. Also, come hungry as most drive-in theaters offer a bit more than just your regular candy and popcorn.
Picnic Time is Here
There are a few things that identify with summer so easily: baseball, vacations, beaches, the pool and picnics. It’s so nice outside that it seems almost criminal to limit your next meals inside.
Make sure you have everything you need before you head out. Show off your culinary skills by bringing a few homemade sandwiches and some snacking items. Don’t forget things like bug spray or suntan lotion if you plan on being in the sun all day. Find a nice spot under a tree in your nearest park or go atop a hill to watch a sunset or if you’re really ambitious, a sunrise.
Cook Something Together
While you’re on your culinary streak, why not have a night in where you cook together? Find some recipes online and see what you’d be willing to try. If you’re in an adventurous mood, go for something you’ve never eaten before.
You can go shopping together and find all the ingredients before you head home and try to make dinner. Even if it doesn’t turn out incredible, it’s a fun activity to do together. Plus, there’s always pizza just a phone call away.
Hit the Mini-Links
Tiger Woods, at age 345 million, just came back to win the Master’s so it’s not too late to see if you’re a golf prodigy. Head down to your local mini-golf course and tee off.
You can keep score if you want or just play for fun. One of you can stay on lookout while the other grabs the ball before it disappears forever on the 18th hole.
